The Cami De Cavalls - DAY 8, 16th June - Es Grau to Port D'Addaia (Stage 2 to Es Grau to Favaritx and Stage 3 to port d'Addaia) Total Distance 18km

Our Day 8 (book day 2) we were up with the larks again. Breakfast with locals at 6am (croissant and coffee!!) and we bid the locals a fond farewell as we were leaving our temporary base today. At 6:30 am we jumped into the taxi for a short trip to Es Grau where we were meeting with some 'amateur' walkers for the first stage of the day to Favaritx.
16th June 2016, 6:38am - Day 8 - Start of Stage 2

Here we are at the starting point at Es Grau at 6:45am, can you spot the 'amateurs'? That'll be Ron and Janet!
16th June 2016, 6:40am - Day 8 - Stage 2
A beautiful morning and location to start, through the Es Grau wetland.
16th June 2016, 6:40am - Day 8 - Stage 2
Ron and I taking in some of the views of the wetlands while Janet and Suzanne use up one third of the planets oxygen 'gassing' on about everything!!
16th June 2016, 7:02am - Day 8 - Stage 2
After half an hour walk up the side of the hill, you can look back and see a lovely view of Es Grau in the morning sun.
16th June 2016, 7:04am - Day 8 - Stage 2
....and in the other direction, we get our first distant view of Favaritx (the end of the first of today's stage).
16th June 2016, 7:09am - Day 8 - Stage 2
The walk goes up to cliff edges (not too high) and then down again to little coves, it also has little stretches of inland track and lots of waters edge paths too.
16th June 2016, 7:49am - Day 8 - Stage 2
Here is a inland path passing through the fields and woodlands. On the last stretch to the lighthouse (Favaritx).
16th June 2016, 8:33am - Day 8 - End Of Stage 2
Through this beautiful Menorcan gate and a short walk after we come to the end of the first stage and it is time to say goodbye to our two 'joy walkers', leaving the serious stuff to the professionals. Steve met us at Favaritx at 9:30am and swapped two back packs for two walkers!! We were on our own again for the last 10km to Port d'Addaia
16th June 2016, 9:17am - Day 8 - Start Of Stage 3
Notice the subtle change? Hair tied back and harnessed with the back-pack! Behind us is the road to the actual lighthouse, but it's about 1km in the wrong direction and anyway, we have been there twice before!
16th June 2016, 9:28am - Day 8 - Stage 3
Even the lichen looks fantastic in Menorca.
16th June 2016, 10:08am - Day 8 - Stage 3
In the background are the islands of Addaia and a distance glimpse of our final destination (or at least that's what we thought at this stage). These can be the best parts of the walk when you feel like you have the whole island to yourself.
16th June 2016, 10:09am - Day 8 - Stage 3
Some beautiful stops along the way.....
16th June 2016, 10:24am - Day 8 - Stage 3
..... and again......
16th June 2016, 11:02am - Day 8 - Stage 3
At Last!! we see some 'Cavalls' on the Cami', all these riders were very posh English people who were awfully chuffed to have two common foot folk to hold the gate open for them :)
16th June 2016, 11:16am - Day 8 - Stage 3
Towards the end of the walk now and we are entering the Salines (Salt works) de Mongofar, another wetland with apparently lots of birds.
16th June 2016, 11:17am - Day 8 - Stage 3
More salt flats
16th June 2016, 11:17am - Day 8 - End Of Stage 3
The path through the salt flats and onto the last paths into the urbanisation of Port d'Addaia. This is when all the best laid plans didn't quite work out! It took us a short time to find our accommodation address - a rundown house with a cluttered garden full of junk and we did not hold out to much hope for our 'studio'! And ... we were right! A very sad looking, damp smelling one bedroom bungalow with décor from the 70's looked about as inviting a sauna on a sunny day. The guy was told 'er no way' and we resorted to a quickly formulated plan B - we would get the bus to Fornells, stay overnight there and walk back to Port d'Addaia the next day thus completing that part of the walk. By chance we managed to catch the only bus into Fornells that day and decided Port d'Addaia was not really a holiday destination; with a tiny supermarket, a bar that opened at 6pm and a dodgy looking Indian restaurant!! We couldn't get a room in the hostal that we were going to stay at the night after but did manage to get one at the hostal next door so again it was clean up showers then out for drinks and eats.
