The Cami De Cavalls - DAY 3, 11th June - Ciutadella to Son Xoriguer (Stage 11 to Cap d'Artrux and Stage 12.1 to Son Xoriguer) Total Distance:17km.

Today started with two real dilemmas :) The first one was, do we start early again (5:45am) and miss FREE breakfast or stay and have breakfast but set off much later. The earliest they do brekie is 7:30am so by the time we finish it would be well after 8. The other dilemma is, I (Keith) have lost my hat!! As it happened everything worked out so well.
Firstly a quick check of the weather forecast showed that the temperature was down from low 30's to mid 20's and there was cloud cover PLUS a breeze. Secondly, because we started later, Elvis was able to do a quick check in the bar we visited last night and she did it again - She found the hat!!! Isn't it just the best feeling when you think you've lost something you really like - then get it back. Max brownie points to Elvis!

11th June 2016, 8:53am - Day 3 - Start of Stage 11

So after a lovely big breakfast, we left the hotel at 8:30am to a cool, overcast sky and breezy day - Marvellous. This first picture is shortly after leaving the city of Cuitadella. You know how sometimes it's better not to know how far you have to walk so you can just get on with it - well, not in this case, because if you look at the above picture, right in the distance, it's quite hard to see but there is a lighthouse. That just happens to be the end of stage 11 - a mere 13km away!!
11th June 2016, 9:00am - Day 3 - Stage 11
This is Cala de Santandria, which is the first beach the cami hits after leaving Cuitadella - up to this point we have been walking through the streets of housing estates for about 5km, still quite interesting to have a look at the urban existence and great for the feet AND for making some quick time.
11th June 2016, 9:23am - Day 3 - Stage 11
The other side of the inlet (Cala) of Santandria - the temperature for walking is perfect and there's a gorgeous cool breeze.
11th June 2016, 9:44am - Day 3 - Stage 11
This is Cala Blanca - (Cala means Inlet and Blanc means White) hence the beautiful white sand that gives it its name. No time for lying around though - there's plenty of time for that later.
11th June 2016, 9:52am - Day 3 - Stage 11
Leaving behind the urbanisation, we're back in the wild! For the next 5 km we are following the cami on a path close to the coast. The terrain is a little flat and unhospitable but still gives you a great feeling.
11th June 2016, 9:57am - Day 3 - Stage 11
Looking back along the coast with Cuitadella in the background - look how far we have come already and we've only been walking 1hr 30mins!
11th June 2016, 10:07am - Day 3 - Stage 11
This is an old well and drinking trough. This is a certain sign that you are on an old part of the Cami, as these were used to water the horses. No I didn't partake, although if I found some of the other horse services, such as a blacksmith, I would have been straight in to be 'shoed'!
11th June 2016, 10:22am - Day 3 - Stage 11
We are still in the wild but passing through some private land, the 'Finca' (means Estate) de Son Olivaret. We stopped here for a moment to have some ill gotten gains 'bagged' from the morning breakfast. Now fully revived, we're on our way to the end of the stage. Believe it or not, in the above picture Elvis is running!! I was not capable of reciprocating!!
11th June 2016, 10:58am - Day 3 - Stage 11
In the book, the above construction is described as an 'old underground bunker with a long entrance tunnel' This is me in the long entrance tunnel - we were trying to fathom out what the purpose of these old buildings were for. We saw a few of these constructions on the coastline and the small holes letting in the light always seemed to be facing the inlet - therefore we wondered if it was a kind of defence point where guns were pointed out through the openings! More research required on that one I think.
11th June 2016, 11:27am - Day 3 - The end of Stage 11
...and before you know it you're there!! No longer a tiny spot on the landscape. This is the end of Stage 11 and another end point. Up to this point today we've been travelling south moving down the west coast of the island. Here at the lighthouse of Artrutx, we are at the most south west point of the island and we turn East and start walking along the south coast.
11th June 2016, 11:39am - Day 3 - Stage 12
After a short'ish walk from the lighthouse about 4 km, we arrive at the canal at Cala en Bosc that links into the interior lake. That's Elvis on the top of the bridge over the canal. We didn't realise it at this point, but we were only half a Km from where we were staying! We ended back up here later that night for a very nice Italian meal and a few beers of course. From here, blissfully unaware we continued on the Cami until it occurred to us that we might be at the end of the stage.
11th June 2016, 11:46am - Day 3 - End of Stage 12
This is Son Xoriguer and the end of the stage and the day. We had to back track a little from here to get to our apartment, fortunately not too far.
11th June 2016, 14:45am - Day 3 - End of Stage 12
All settled in - we arrived in reasonably good shape at 12:10 and got a full wash done (utilising the sink and the bidet) and put it out to dry - a bottle of fizz and some snacks before a little siesta and out for a lovely pasta and wine. There was a football match going on - Wales were busy beating the Russians. None of that for us though - we needed an early night - tomorrow is the longest walk of the cami, 26km, but we have decided (not clear why) to make it longer by going to the next resort along, making it a mere 30km!
