The Great Barrier Reef - Starring 'Jacks Coostix' (as Ma Hodgson Would Say)

This is the port of Cairns, where you catch a boat out to the Great Barrier Reef. After about 90 minutes of sailing you jump off the boat and swim amongst some of the most amazing scenery in the world. In fact - here comes the facts: The Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven wonders of the natural world. It's larger than the Great Wall of China (2000 metres in length) and the only living thing visible from outer space!

Having said all of that it's quite nice to swim in too!

The photos are taken using a 5 quid disposable underwater camera, so we couldn't capture all the fantastic views - I'm sorry bloggers but to see this in its full spectacular glory, you're going to have to don the wet suit and get in!! The colours and variety of the coral, the size - shape and colour of the fish are really amazing. We even saw a giant hawksbill turtle (no picture I'm afraid) and Keith managed to swim down to it and hold its shell.

Aye, what happened to those people you shared the campavan with? Surely not last seen somewhere in the rainforest's croc infested waters? Do you now have the campavan all to yourself?
Was there any danger of "Barnes Parks" in the Barrier Reef? Or how about those vicious aggressive stingrays that took out Jack MacMadd?
Seriously though, I bet those photos don't even come close to how spectacular that must be. Just gorgeous!

by god, you two are brave getting that close to a croc. afraid of nowt as i once was, i doubt i'd get within a mile of any water where those frightful creatures are. but i'm well jealous of the snorkeling in the great barrier reef, i will get there someday. looks fantastic

Hey you two! Paul emailed me the details of your blog so I had a look during my lunchbreak on a cold wet December morning in Sunderland.

The photos are great and it looks like you're having a brilliant time. All I could think of was "you lucky gits!!!"

Keep having fun and take care!

Oh, and Keith .... looks like you need to work on that roundhouse mate ... that was a shoddy effort and Hepton could probably do better .... or are you blaming the overly tight ninja suit??!!
